Walking

Why is it that some people walk at 9 months and others not till 21 months?

Hamish is now walking at 17 months - yay! So at what point does a child think to themselves: "I am just going to get up and walk today." Some just simply just get up and go. Too young to think otherwise, their legs just do the thinking and they stand. Such eager little things bypass the crawling stage and they simply walk. Then there are the kids like Flynn. One week, at 15 months, Flynn knew he could walk but crawling seemed to be way too fast and cool. Walking was slow and cumbersome. Suddenly, the following week , crawling was for babies and walking was for the cool dudes. You could see the cognition going on in his brain.

And then there is Hamish! Hamish could have walked weeks ago. But no, he knew we wanted him to walk, so with all his stubborness and a cheeky smile he simply chose not to. Every time his mum, dad and his brother tried to get him to walk, he'd simply sit on his bum and crawl away. And crawl he could .... 1, 2, 3 bursts and he'd be off like a rocket. Then something must have switched in his mind and the little tacker took his first confident steps and now there is no stopping him. He is walking everywhere. "Goodbye crawl. Hello walk. I'm ready to take on Vietnam. Here I come, ready or not!"
